Thanksgiving Swing

I was lucky enough to catch this photo of the world's prettiest seven-year-old. She rushed out to this swing after turkey dinner and I'm so glad I had my camera.

What a beautiful shot! How did you capture the subject in focus with blurred surroundings? At risk of exposing my great ignorance on this topic, I'm going to guess that you used a small aperature setting, meaning a large opening and a fast shutter speed?????

P.S. She looks a lot like her Mom in this picture.

Math..

Aperture is the same as 'opening' which in this case was small. A small aperture is represented with a larger number (ie f/22) causing most of the confusion. The shutter speed was slow, around 1/20 of a second.
